Set up in 2008 in response to concerns about ‘rogue traders’ and administered by Trading Standards, the Buy With Confidence Scheme provides consumers with a list of local businesses, which have given their commitment to trading fairly. Every business listed has undergone a series of detailed checks before being approved as a member of the scheme.
This includes passing a set of tailored background checks, a review of their complaints history and visits by Trading Standards officers. Good references are required from previous customers and applicants must agree to abide by the scheme’s code of conduct, which requires them to follow the letter and spirit of the law.
Businesses are only granted membership of the scheme if all of its requirements are met meanwhile their performance continues to be assessed through ongoing checks.
